From September 2004, a new service began for young carers living on the Aylesbury Estate.
The Aylesbury Estate Young Carers Project works to support children and young people in their caring role. Staff recognise that young carers can feel positive and proud about the help they give to their family. However at times young carers can also feel stressed, anxious and resentful. It is important that a child is not expected to do too much caring, so that it has a negative impact on them.

Aims of the Aylesbury Estate Project

The Aylesbury Estate Young Carers Project will ensure that every young carer who joins will have the opportunity to:

Green dot Get regular breaks from caring
Green dot Discover new skills, talents and interests
Green dot Meet new friends (who are also young carers)
Green dot Have a weekend or longer holiday away each year
Green dot Get to discuss issues related to caring with staff and peers
Green dot Join a forum to influence the future direction of the project
Green dot Engage in fun activities where they can act their age

Join the Aylesbury Estate Project
